Judge T. Jackson Bedford, Jr., a graduate of the University of Virginia and Emory University School of Law, was elected to the Superior Court of Fulton County in 1996, where he still serves today, having been re-elected numerous times. He is an active member of various bar associations, including the Atlanta Bar Association, the Gate City Bar Association, the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, the Cobb County Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. Judge Bedford was the President of the Atlanta Bar Association in 1994-95 and is also a Past President of the Atlanta Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Atlanta Bar Association.
Judge Bedford is a Past President of the Emory Law Alumni Association, a position he held for three years. He has been an Adjunct Professor at Emory Law School where he taught Advanced Litigation skills. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Brandon’s Foundation, Inc., an organization dedicated to helping children and families of children fighting cancer. He is a long-time member of the Buckhead Business Association and is a sought after speaker for various continuing legal education programs on the topic of professionalism ethics, discovery abuses and litigation skills.
Judge Bedford’s favorite charitable activity is directing the Atlanta Santa Project, which he founded over 20 years ago. This project of the Atlanta Bar Foundation provides Santas and Elves to thousands of disadvantaged children and mentally challenged adults every Christmas season. Judge Bedford, as Santa, and his wife, Patty, as Mrs. Claus visit the Battered Women’s Shelter every Christmas Eve and Egleston’s Children’s Hospital every Christmas morning. Additionally, as Santa, he has seen the troops off at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Christmas morning for a number of years.
Judge Bedford is a Vietnam Veteran, having flown over 100 combat support missions as a Naval Flight Officer. He is active in the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and serves whenever possible as a judge of the Veteran’s Day Parade held in downtown Atlanta.
Judge Bedford has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years, including the Founders Award from the Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar Association’s highest recognition, the Leadership Award.
