Pretrial Services operates the Court's Pretrial Release, Bond Reduction and 10% Bail programs, and appoints counsel to represent indigent defendants. Pretrial Services seeks to:

1) maximize the release of pretrial defendants from detention
2) maintain a high appearance rate for court hearings
3) maintain a low rate of new crime after defendants are released

Each of these goals reduce jail expenses and alleviate crowding.

Staff members at the Intake Unit interview defendants and make recommendations regarding each defendant's suitability for release into the community.

The Supervision Unit directly monitors clients who are released into the community; these clients may be required to undergo violence counseling, mental health treatment, school attendance, random urinalysis or other court-ordered conditions. Staff may also recommend clients for possible participation in Superior Court's Diversionary Drug Court Program.

In 2008, Pretrial Release Officers interviewed 16,451felony defendants. Of those 4,398 defendants were released to Pretrial Services for monitoring and supervision. Of those defendants supervised by PreTrial Services, 96 percent appeared in court as scheduled.

Last year, Pretrial Services release programs saved Fulton County taxpayers over $18.5 million dollars in jail bed space.
