OFFICE OF ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION

The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program serves all of the Fulton County Courts through a diverse selection of Arbitration, Mediation, Early Neutral Evaluation, and Judicially Hosted Settlement Conferences.

The ADR Program offers the “Families in Transition” seminar, a court ordered educational program for parties in domestic relations matters involving children, and provides “On-Site” mediation services for domestic relations cases.

What Is MediaLet our trained mediators and arbitrators reduce the expense and time involved in resolving your legal dispute.tion?  Mediation is historically one of the oldest methods of resolving conflicts.  It is a confidential and informal dispute resolution process in which a mediator, a neutral trained listener and negotiator, helps explore the interests of both sides of a dispute, expand the options in meeting those interests, and concludes the matter by designing a mutually agreeable settlement.  A mediator does not impose a decision upon the parties but rather allows parties to explore their concerns, identify areas that must reach resolution and creatively explore a variety of ways to resolve the dispute to their satisfaction.

In Fulton County, disputing parties with cases in Superior, State, Magistrate, Juvenile and Probate courts have the opportunity to settle their case through an alternative dispute resolution process – primarily through mediation.
In 2007, 6,188 mediation sessions were held through the Fulton County Courts’ alternative dispute resolution programs.  Of those cases, 76 percent were resolved by mediation. That eliminated the need for and cost of trials and resulted in more timely and durable resolutions of the conflicts.
