Judge Henry M. Newkirk was appointed to the Superior Court of Fulton County in February, 2008 by Governor Sonny Perdue. He previously served as Judge of the State Court of Fulton County for more than nine years. Prior to his appointment to the Fulton State Court bench, he served thirteen years as an Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County and two years as an assistant solicitor in DeKalb County. After receiving his B.S. degree from Florida State University, he served as a police officer for three years with the Tallahassee Police Department and the Gwinnett County Police Department. Since graduating from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1982, Judge Newkirk has been an active member of numerous state and local bar associations. He served on the executive committee of the Council of State Court Judges and is past Chair of the Judicial Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. Judge Newkirk pioneered the use of electronic filing in civil cases in Georgia and his court was the first state court east of the Mississippi to use e-filing. Judge Newkirk is active in his community, serving on the board of the Wesley Woods Foundation and is a member of the Chastain Park Conservancy. He and his wife, Lynn, are members of Northside United Methodist Church and they have an adult daughter, Kramer. |
