Shawn Ellen LaGrua serves as a Judge of the Superior Court of Fulton County. She was appointed to the Court as its 20th judge by Governor Sonny Perdue on December 29, 2009.

Prior to assuming her judgeship on June 29, 2010, she served as Inspector-General for the Georgia Secretary of State where she created that office’s first comprehensive investigative unit.

Judge LaGrua also served from 2004- 2007 as Solicitor General for DeKalb County. As Solicitor General she expanded the Domestic Violence Unit; more than doubling the rate of conviction; founded the “Rise Up and Attend” Truancy Initiative and created Georgia’s first Educational Neglect Court.

Judge LaGrua has nearly 20 years of trial experience, including her work as an assistant district attorney in DeKalb and Fulton counties, in the Tallapoosa Circuit and for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council.

Judge LaGrua graduated from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia in 1984 and received her juris doctorate in law from the Georgia State University College of Law in 1987.

Judge LaGrua is a Master of the Logan E. Bleckley Inn of Court, an Advanced Evidence professor at Georgia State University College of Law, and a founding member and chair of the Georgia Association of Woman Lawyers, Judicial Application Review Committee. Her many community activities include serving on the boards of directors of The Georgia Center for Children, The Daisy Hill Foundation, Ahimsa House, Gold Shield Foundation, and Project Destiny Academy of Excellence.
