Consistently lauded by colleagues and litigants alike for his honesty, fundamental sense of fairness, and integrity, Judge Ural D. Glanville has spent his life in public service—not only as a jurist, but also as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps. He is presently Lt Colonel, JAG 335th TSC. Judge Glanville studied at Brevard College in North Carolina and at the University of Georgia, where he earned his law degree in 1987. In the private sector, his work as an advocate spanned the spectrum from prosecution to criminal defense to civil litigation. Judge Glanville also spent several years teaching trial practice and litigation skills at Georgia State University, College of Law. Judge Glanville spent nine years as a magistrate Judge in Fulton County State Court.
On August 10, 2004, Judge Glanville won a contested election for Fulton County Superior Court. He currently serves as one of 19 Superior Court Judges for Fulton County and presides over a wide variety of criminal and civil cases.
Judge Glanville’s community service includes character development programs with local elementary and middle schools, and a resource program helping men to become better fathers. Judge Glanville is a member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta; Judge Glanville has held office or has served in numerous Civic and Community organizations. Judge Glanville is a 2005 graduate of “Leadership Atlanta”. Judge Glanville is married to the former Lisa Butts, daughter of Pauline F. Butts, former educator, and the late Dr. Lester W. Butts, Principal of Douglass High School and Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools. They live with their two children in Southwest Atlanta.
